National Garden Railway Show

Yesterday I paid my first visit to the National Garden Railway Show, and I have to admit, it wasn’t quite what I expected.

In many ways it felt less like a conventional exhibition and more like an extended club running day. Enthusiasts brought along their layouts, others arrived with stock to run on them, and everything had a relaxed, collaborative feel. Add in more than 60 traders, and it made for a rather unique mix.

The overall impression? A kind of big, welcoming family gathering for large-scale modellers—with a healthy dose of retail temptation thrown in.

There was plenty to admire: beautifully detailed rolling stock, some truly impressive large-scale buildings, and layouts packed with atmosphere. It was thoroughly enjoyable.

I’ve included a few random snapshots below of things that caught my eye—click on any image for a larger view.

Shout out to Dave, Mike and Andi – it was good to catch up with you 🙂
