Small Chassis, Big Chip

This is a Minitrains F&C 0-4-0 chassis with a TCS KAM4 decoder. It’s a nice decoder with a pretty impressive stay alive.

I think I can fit it under the body of the O9 loco I’m making, with one small modification to the chassis.

I removed the metal chip with the raised edges and replaced it with a flat piece of plasticard. This will enable the chip to sit a little lower on the chassis and fit under the boiler of the loco body.

  1. Hey Steve – using your blog as a source of inspiration again! Spotted one of these Minitrains locos in a model shop today and got me thinking about using it for a G9 loco.

Do you have a measurement for how far that flywheel is off the ground with the loco on a flat surface? I would hide it inside a firebox but not sure I will be able to make one a convincing size.

G9 sounds interesting – let me know how you get on !
The hieght from the top of the rail to the top of the flywheel is approx 29mm – Hope that helps
      All the best
