War Department D Type Wagon Conversion

At a recent Heart of England Narrow Gauge Modellers meeting Graeme kindly sold me a Slater’s War Department Light Railway D Type wagon.

It’s a highly detailed model that’s been very well made and I like the existing livery.

I’d like to run it on the HOENGM SM32 modules. These use 1 foot (305mm) radius curves – quite tight for 16mm narrow gauge stock !

This kit wasn’t designed for this. The brake stanchions on the bogies foul the body preventing the wagon running round the curves.

A conversion is called for… luckily I like modifying things πŸ™‚

Converting the model was fun but the key question remains:

Will the bogie transplant allow the wagon to negotiate 1 foot radius curves?

It’s great to see the wagon running.

It seems huge in comparison to my existing 16mm gauge stock. Most of that is less than 90mm (3.5 inches) long but the bogie wagon is 310mm (about 12 inches) long!

I’m gonna have some fun with this πŸ™‚
