It started when Pete Blay showed me a 16mm scale diesel loco he’d built using a Caterpillar loco chassis.
I had no idea what a Caterpillar loco was.
When Pete showed me I knew I had to steal his idea and use it as a starting point for my own loco build.

This is a Caterpillar locomotive ! Pete helped me remove the front, powered, bogie.I added a radio control system from a toy car.I cut off the protruding part of the chassis.Then made a fake footplate from plasticard.The sides of the box cab were made from stirrers (big ones for the body and smaller coffee stirrers for the doors).The ends were made from the bigger stirrers.Glue the components together and it’s beginning to look like a box cab.The control system sits on the floor of the cab. There’s room for an additional battery which will power something else….I made a roof from a curved piece of balsa wood covered in plasticard.Add some 3D printed parts and it’s beginning to look like a loco 🙂
