Bahnchen: Tunnels and Scenery

With the baseboard built it was time to start on the scenery.

I needed a couple of tunnel mouths and some rock faces. Here’s what I did…

I made templates for the tunnel mouths from cardboard.
They were positioned on the layout and the clearances checked. This is the second template, the hole wasn’t big enough in the first one!
I drew round the template on Wills Dressed Stone sheet.
Then I chained drilled the outline of the tunnel mouth. I do enjoy chain drilling 🙂
A additional layer of thin card was added to represent more stonework.
Primer, painting, weathering powder. Job done.
More Wills sheet was added to the front of the layout. Polystyrene blocks form the landscape.
A layer of foam board created the roof of the tunnel.
Large quantities of Polyfilla were used to make rock faces. Messy fun. (I’ve cleaned the tools here. It was messier before!)
After it had dried, it looked like a cake 🙂
