Boxomise: To Wills, or not to Wills ?

The Wills range of kits have been around since the late 1970’s.

They have been widely used and some modellers regard them as a bit of a cliche.

I rather like them. Nice crisp mouldings, easy to build and they capture the essence of many, once common, railway scenes. Perhaps because the late Iain Rice was involved in designing them.

I have ‘ummed and ahed’ about what type of station building to use on Boxomise. To Wills, or not to Wills ?

In the end I decided to Wills. I plumped for the Station Platform Shelter (SS60) as it captures the spirit of a simple country station building rather well.

Here are some snaps of the build. Click on a photo for a larger image.

  1. I’ve just bought the same Wills Station Platform Building kit and am also really annoyed that they’ve replaced the Felt & Batten roof with slates. I didn’t want slate and don’t feel it’s as evocative of a small station shelter. The outside of the package and the Assembly instructions inside, both show Felt & Batten. ONE QUESTION: Just out of interest, did you bother to try complaining to Wills (Peco) about this. I wrote to Peco/Wills tonight, I’ll be interested to see if I receive a reply.

    • Hi Peter, I’m glad I’m not the only one who found that strange! I didn’t contact Peco though. I brought some of the Felt and Batton plastic sheet because it seemed easier just to replace it. However, I do think that what you see in the photo should be what you get in the box. I’d be interested to hear what Peco say….
