Ely Model Railway Show 2022

Today I went to Ely & District Model Railway Club’s annual show.

For me it is a short trip by train. There were some interesting things to see at Ely station.

Ely is an attractive city with interesting shops, an open air market and some eccentric parking.

After some tasty street food I headed to the exhibition.

Here are some pics of a few of the layouts.

Fullers Wharf 7mm scale O and O-16.5 Ely MRC: Interesting interchange layout with canal, narrow gauge and standard gauge transfer facilities.

Shortwaite Hill 009 Graham & Caroline Watling: Clever adaption of a classic Cyril Freezer plan.

Longstone Gn15 Barry Weston: Modelling sytle look familiar? That’s because this layout was created by Graham & Caroline Watling.

Nonsuch O-16.5 Derek Reeve Sudbury: If the Tudors had invented railways…. Purists may not like thatched coaches but this is great modelling. The buildings and the scenery are fantastic.

Orford O Gauge Paul Clark: If the railways had arrived in the Suffolk village of Orford… The station building is based on Thaxted, one of my favourite GER stations. There’s lots to like about this layout.

Rogue’s Lane 00 Andy Hastings: An attractive, compact shuting layout. Clever selector plate.

Bay City Terminal Railroad HO Bill Tharp: Lovely freelance micro shunting layout representing a car maintenance facility. Another clever selector plate (that I forgot to photograph !)

A good day out. I enjoyed Ely, the exhibition and I bumped into a few narrow gauge friends. Good to see you again guys.

Many thanks to the Ely & District MRC for organising such a great exhibition.
