A very Merry Christmas to everyone. I hope you have an enjoyable and relaxing holiday season.
The photo shows the Harz Narrow Gauge Railway (Harzer Schmalspurbahnen) in the snow. It’s a network of three railways with 140km (87 miles) of track, 25 steam locos and 16 diesels. It is the largest network of narrow gauge railways in Germany and has even been classified as a historical monument !
It’s definitely on my ‘wish list’….

The Harz mountains are beautiful. I used to work nearby in Wolfsburg and Braunschweig (Brunswick) for VW and would often go up there for a Sunday toodle. The steam locos are immaculate and really do have bright red wheels, like a Fleischmann model! They push through the forests and seem to come out of nowhere. Well worth a visit.

There used to be a damned good Irish bar in Braunschweig too!
