When I test ran the bogie box van it was too top heavy, and wobbled from side to side a little too much for my liking.
As the floor is a simple push fit it is easy to add weight to the interior of the van. At first I put a large rectangle of lead between the bogies and this worked quite well but made the van rather heavy.
Then I tried two smaller pieces of lead positioned immediately above the bogies. This gives really nice running.
Here’s a little video of the unpainted van on Thomas and Sons.
OK, it’s not a hollywood action movie… but I really enjoy running stock slowly back and forth on this layout 🙂
That really is very smooth. Worth taking the trouble getting the weighting right.

Thanks Chris. It was a fun thing to do. Run wagon, add weight, run wagon, adjust weight… repeat. A good excuse to ‘play trains’ 🙂
