For my industrial layout the centre of the track will be filled with clay and embossed to represent setts. There must be a gap between the clay and the rails to allow the wheel flanges to run inside the track.
I created this tool from plasticard. Pushing it along the rails should remove enough clay to create a gap for the wheel flanges.
Great idea Steve. I’m looking forward to seeing the finished item.

I’ve got a small screwdriver. I filed a notch in the blade making it like an inverted L shape. It fits over the rail with the unfiled part scraping the inside edge of the rail.

Hi Chris, That’s a really neat solution. I may try that 👍. Jokingly – In theory my scraper does both rails at the same time so it should be twice as quick, but that’s just theory 🙂 I bet you are much quicker at this than me !
