Yorkshire Garden Railway Show 2026

On Saturday the 10th I popped along to the Yorkshire Garden Railway Show.

It was a huge exhibition, with lots of layouts and an enormous number of traders.

The venue was the Elsecar Heritage centre.
This is a view of about two-thirds of the main hall in the exhibition.
This is most of the second hall.
As you can see, it was a big exhibition.
There was a fantastic array of traders selling everything a large scale modeller could wish for.
Kippo Buildings were really eye catching.
As you’d expect there were lots of excellent live steam locos.
The model of “Diana” is considerably larger than the 009 version 🙂
This Shay is an amazing piece of engineering – beautiful too.
I liked this tractor load in a well wagon.
A 6 wheel wagon chassis with moving centre axle assembly – very clever.
On the layouts there were lots of locos in action.
And some nice scenic cameos as well.
An attractive Bagnall P51 loco.
There were several versions of Criccieth Castle in different liveries.
I think my favourite was this grey – nice cab details too.
An unusual cabbed, live steam, vertical boiler locomotive.
Groudle Glen Railway’s Polar Bear looking colourful.
In contrast, this Ransomes & Rapier loco looks great in plain red.
Nicely lined Phil Sharples tractor loco.
A highly detailed plate layers wagon.
I am very drawn to the small Boot Lane Works battery powered steam locos.
There were some super structures on the layouts.
This simple station building captures the atmosphere of narrow gauge.
A large, impressive chapel.
My prize for the best wagon loads – a flail and a searchlight !
The French have an expression “Jolie laide” meaning pretty and ugly at the same time.
I have a feeling I will be buying one of these !
