Completed Lister Locomotive

I’ve completed the kit for the little Lister locomotive.

The painting process was fairly straightforward: a couple of coats of green from a rattle can, followed by a little dry brushing with a muddy earth tone and a few subtle dabs of rust to give it a more weathered, hard-worked appearance.

Now all I need to do is finish the layout 🙂

  2. Hi Steve, I think you rather play down your painting and weathering skills in your narrative. As they say a picture paints a thousand words and in the case of the lister the picture certainly says a lot more then your modest words! If I had to distill what I see in a few words I would include the words exquisite, skillful, realistic and the phrase ‘just like the real thing’. Before I big you up too much I will leave it at that but if I had built and painted that loco I would be well proud! Woody.

      Thank you very much for such kind words — I’m genuinely touched by your comments. I think, like many modellers, I tend to see all the faults and compromises in my own work rather more clearly than anyone else does!

      I’m really pleased you felt the Lister captured something of the real thing. Weathering and finishing are areas I’ve been experimenting with for a while now. I still feel I’m learning in, so encouragement like this is greatly appreciated.

      One weathering aid that I really like are the MIG Ammo Oilbrushers. They work well and are ‘controllable’. Because they are oil based you get a long working time and can add / remove / move around the product until you get an effect you like.

      They are well worth a try IMO. (I’ve no connection to MIG, just a happy customer).

  3. Woody is right, the larger the scale the harder it is to make the weathering look right, & yours looks superb.

      Thanks very much — that’s really kind of you. I totally agree, larger scales definitely make it harder to get weathering to look convincing, so I’m very pleased you think it works on the Lister.
      One thing the pictures can’t show is the squeak the loco makes when it runs – I still need to sort that out 🙂
