Bramble Lines Loco: Painting & Gotcha

The narrow gauge O9 (On18) locomotive I showed you last month has been completed.

But there was a ‘gotcha’ with the build and the loco will have to return to the workshop for some modifications !

I really should have thought that the loco would be unbalanced with a whitemetal driver placed so far to one side of the footplate.

However, I was caught up in ‘this looks so nice’ mode and I forgot the loco would need to be balanced to run well.

There are two possible solutions:

  • add some weight to the other side of the model.
  • replace the driver with a lighter plastic one.

For option 1, I’m not sure there’s enough room for sufficient weight under the body.

So I fear it may have to be option 2.

That’s a pity because the driver is glued in with expoy !

    • Hi Annie, Yes, I like him too. He will have to reappear on another loco!
The kit was designed fr a different chassis, which didn’t protrude into the cab, leaving a flat floor to the cab. The Kato chassis I’ve used is longer, and protrudes into the cab meaning the floor isn’t flat.
Any driver will have to be ‘half in half out’. I’ll scout around for a lighter model πŸ™‚
