Cute SM32 Flat Wagon

Recently, I purchased some SM32 kits as a first foray into this new (to me) scale.

The first kit has been completed, to make a rather cute flat wagon.

The main parts of the kit.
Assemble five pieces….
… and it looks like a flat wagon already.
The parts for the couplings.
Easy to assemble.
All parts were painted with a white ‘cover up’ primer.
Painted in ‘dirty black’.
The wagon was sprayed with Humbrol grey.
I sprayed the sole bars separately.
After a little assembly and weathering.
The wheels push onto the axles.
I used a scrap of plastic to make a back-to-back gauge.
The axles and wheels were pushed in place.
Then the sole bars were glued in place outside the wheels.
Job done !
The kit makes a really nice wagon.

I was surprised how much fun this was to build !

It was refreshing to work with nice big pieces and use tools that I don’t usually use for modelling.

I mean who uses a hacksaw, sanding block and a massive pliers to make a little flat wagon?

For the Paint Spotters (and as an aide memoire for me!)

  • 2 coats of Zinsser stain cover
  • 2 coats of Humbrol Number 1 Primer
  • Humbrol Dirty Black
  • Dry brush Citadel Ulthuan Grey
  • Light dry brush of Ammo Streaking Brusher Medium Brown
  • Light dry brush of Ammo Oil Brusher Rust

      I suspect the wheels (and axles?) come from this supplier https://peterbinnie.com/shop who sells a wide range of SM32 wheel types. UK based though so I don’t know how that affects pricing / postage for you.
