New Leave Anywhere Bike

I live five miles from Cambridge.

Bike theft is quite common in the city centre.

I have a couple of bikes, a tourer and a mountain bike.

I’m attached to them. I’d hate it if they were stolen.

As a result I don’t go into Cambridge by bike.

That’s a pity, it’s one of the easiest ways to get there.

My solution: buy a cheap ‘leave anywhere’ bike.

Here it is: Β£29.95 from ebay.

Bargain!

All I had to do was add some pedals from my ‘bike bits box’.

Oh, and a bell too. Essential for Cambridge!

It was cheap, I’m not attached to it, and I wont mind if it gets nicked.

Now I can potter into Cambridge whenever I like πŸ™‚

    • Ah, I sold my fixie a couple of years ago. A Ribble 531 frame in white – looked and rode great. I do miss it.
So, yes a fixie might be a possibility πŸ™‚

      • I rode fixed for a while when I lived in Bedfordshire. Takes a bit of nerve! I was also riding a singlespeed mtb, which made a lot of sense there.

  1. WOW Steve! I started my racing career on a Falcon frame very similar to that one! Cost me Β£35 back in 1978 as it was Reynolds 531 main tubes and I think yours is too if that sticker on the down tune is what I think it is. The rest of the parts added up to another Β£103 so you really have a bargain. Still have that bike along with nine others now! I think you may become attached to it at some stage. Looks like someone replaced the chain set at some stage as that one doesn’t look period to the rest of the bike. Woody

    • Hi Woody, What a coincidence! Your bike sounds great. I am jealous that you have 10. I’m in trouble for buying a third one. Yikes !
I suspect my Falcon was owned by a serious cyclist (as a winter bike perhaps?). You are right it has been upgraded and well looked after. I took it for a spin the other evening and, yes, there is a danger that I will become attached to it πŸ™‚
