It was a top quality narrow gauge show with (if I counted correctly) 15 layouts and 4 traders and, as always, tasty refreshments. Plus it’s a nice opportunity to catch up with people I know, meet new people and talk to the exhibitors about their layouts. It was great talking to you all π
Here are some snaps of things that caught my eye. Click on an image for a larger version.
Sampson Vale HOe by Graham and Caroline WatlingA nice, dual sided layout.A little bridge links the two sides.Super ship, and clever use of mirrors to make it appear larger. I am a big fan of Caroline’s scenic work.Three Pines Sugar Cane Company in 009 by George ShawA charming ingelnook shunting puzzle with interesting stock….. and really nice scenery using wargaming buildings and figures.Cilffordd Corris in 009 by Graham and Jamie Doe.I really like the dense wooded scenery, it creates a super atmosphere. The river running through the center of the layout is well modelled. I particularly liked the sheep drover cameo. Two Sisters Farm in 1:32 scale owned by Barry WestonThere are lots of charming cameos…… and highly detailed modelling. When I stepped back and looked at the whole scene I wondered if it was too busy for my taste.A more minimalist aproach by Chris Ford is Gill Sands in O9.Cleverly designed so layout and fiddle yard fit into one box. Chris admitted he took some inspiration from my Redwell layout, which was flattering.Nicely modelled stock. The loco is painted in red primer and looks great. An upscaled Airfix hut.And a charming, miniscule station building.Nice O9 tram loco.Sylvasprings in 009 by Chris O’DonoghueChris took a ‘nursery layout’ that he made several years ago…... and added an extension inspired by Dodding’s Farm Watercress Railway. British saddleback pigs.Nicely modelled watercress beds.Models of two of the Dodding’s Farm locos. The company’s fleet of lorries inspired by a photo of the real lorries.I particularly liked the detail inside the cold frames.Ingoldsby Yard in O9 by Chris Seago. It’s a delightful Ingelnook shunting puzzle. With lovely locos and stock.‘Go Go’ style loco tractors.I really like Chris’s modelling style, and the high quality.Afterwards, I headed to Lowestoft for an ice cream…… a long walk on the beach…… and fish and chips. When the cat’s are wearing woolly hats and scarves you know the temperature’s dropping and it’s time to head home !
Many thanks to Richard Doe and the NSNG team for organising such an enjoyable event.
How did I miss you Steve? Never mind! It was a good show – always is. I was very taken with the simplicity of Chris F’s little layout. Inspiration perhaps for me to build something small just to see if I can still do it! Might have to be 009 though!
Hi David,
Gosh, I didn’t realise you were there! To avoid the rush, I arrived in the afternoon, perhaps that’s why we missed one another.
Yes, a nice, simple, compact 009 terminus would be super – go for it π
Hope to see you sometime soon
