Yesterday was Narrow Gauge North 2025, a cracking exhibition with over 20 layouts and 15 traders.
Here are some pics of just some of the layouts. Click on an image for a larger picture.
El Tortuga HOe, originally built by Don Sibley in the 1980s.It is a charming little micro layout. There’s even a balloon loop to add operational interest..Now owned by Rob Rossington and Charlie Insley and running a nice selection of their stock.B.A. Cookes Engineering, O-16.5 and standard gauge.Lovely 1:12 scale Sir Arthur Heywood stock. These locos run on 1.25 inch gauge track (OK, 32mm) which scales out nicely to the 15 inch gauge prototype.Interesting demo of the Sir Arthur Heywood couplings.Kitson Castle & Peckett Pier 009. This is the pier end. This is the castle station end.Really beautiful Swiss layout, Kreuzweg in HOmLovely scenery, I could watch the trains for hours! The layout has super details, such as these skiers and safety netting. The waterfall is beautifully modelled.Lunch. Pie, chips and mushy peas. The mushy peas look a bit odd in the photo but they were delicious.North Winterton in 009 by Martin Hallett, with a scenic area 3 feet (90cm) long.Lovely modelling of a snow scene with the underlying ground cover showing through the snow.Redwood Lumber – On30Very attractive atmosphere.Great buildings…… and very detailed cameos. One of my favourite layouts of the exhibition.Fitzwilliam Basin O9 layout by Andy BoothFictional layout based on buildings from the village of Elsecar in Yorkshire. The layout ooses atmosphere…… and is full of subtle details.Andy obviously loves making buildings. This wall was made from foam board.Even the areas that are not immediately visible are highly detailed.Canal side warehouse at one side of the layout.
I really enjoyed looking at the layouts and there were lots of opportunities to talk to interesting people. It was particularly nice to catch up with David, Matt, Andy and Paul (of Paul’s Fantastic Workbench).
Yes, I did spend some money. Lots of odds and ends really.
The A1 models ‘Diesel Loco Bonnetts’ look interesting. I hadn’t seen them before and there’s scratch building potential here.
The soldering iron claims to be a 30W iron that heats up to 130W when you pull the trigger. I’m sceptical about that 130W figure, but it will be fun to try it.
The die cast car was a bargain from the 009 Society sales stand. It is beautiful but it will probably be cut up with a hacksaw 🙂
Many thanks to all the exhibitors, traders, caterers and organisers for a great day out.
Nice to see you on Saturday, and thanks for the link. It looks like you came home with a good haul, A1 Models do make some useful parts for us modellers.
