Cut and Shut Coal Wagon

There are lots of nice O-16.5 narrow gauge wagons designed to run on 16.5mm track.

I wondered if they could be converted into O9 wagons to run on 9mm gauge track….

The starting point, a 422 Modelmaking open wagon.
I cut a section from the centre of the wagon.
The join was hidden with some plasticard ‘strapping’.
A Peco wagon chassis glued on.
Fake axle boxes and solebars.
The wagon is quite long so the couplings can rotate.
My standard livery: brown and anthracite.
Transfers kindly printed by Graham Threader.
Some balsa wood to create a base for the coal.
Coal loads need a hump.
Disguise the wood with black paint.
Glue on some real coal and weather with weathering powders.
The result, a large O9 wagon.
