My next layout will be something in O9.
O scale on 9mm gauge track, representing an 18 inch (around 450mm) gauge railway.
That’s decided.
But I don’t know the location or style of the line.
Lots of ideas have been floating through my mind.
I’ve brought a number of building kits because they ‘might just fit’.
The problem is, I don’t know which idea I prefer, so I don’t have a clear idea of what to build.
My solution to the problem:
stop overthinking and just build the kits.
Hopefully when I’ve made the different buildings something will ‘just click’ or ‘feel right’.
Then I will decide the location and theme for the layout.
So for now it’s ‘don’t think, just build’.
Welcome to my World Steve!
On a serious note, I do find that the most workable deas usually come from having something tangible in front of you that you can move around and see the reality of. Much as I admire those that can plan a layout to a micro level before setting to on building it that does not work well for me. I’m sure you will come up with a cracking layout using those kits. Looking forward to the build.

Hi Woody, Oh, I agree so much! I can any number of the Freerails plans or sketches but I only begin to really ‘see’ a layout when I have physical objects I can move around. Building, points, wagons… these are what I really need to plan a layout.
All the best
Steve
