The goods yard at Boxomise has been successfully finished and now includes several models that were created up to a year ago, such as the coal office, the downsized goods shed and the Morris van.
Although some of the models date back a year, the coal piles are newly crafted. I took balsa wood and sculpted it into rough coal shapes, followed by painting them black, coating them in PVA glue, and finally sprinkling crushed coal over them to achieve a realistic look.

The coal scales were produced via 3D printing by Chris Ward, while the empty coal sacks are crafted from paper and painted in a grubby color.

Completing the goods yard took a year – a time that was not filled with intensive modeling activities, but rather involved a fair amount of experimentation and testing to decide what I liked best.
As it is a hobby, the process holds its own value and enjoyment.
You’ve created a very realistic scene. Definitely worth taking you time to get it right.
