Boxomise: Class E Bogie Wagon

Bogie stock is like busses. You wait ages for one, then two come along together.

A few weeks ago I build my first ever 009 bogie coach.

It’s made me want a large bogie wagon. Cue a second-hand Dundas Models kit.

Here’s the build… Click on a photo for a larger image.

I brought the kit second-hand
First, build a simple box.
I cut a groove in the bogies to accept the Greenwich couplings.
The brake columns were added to the bogies
I weathered the wagon and bogies
Countersunk head bolts are provided to attach the bogies.
Neat little nuts to fix everything.
I painted the bolt heads to hide them.
Similarly, with the nuts.
These second-hand barrels will help to hide the bolts heads.
The wagon runs nicely.
The farmer is wondering how to snaffle some beer !

I know similar WW1 wagons are available as ready to run stock, but where’s the fun in that ?

I like making stuff. I like painting stuff.

This is well designed kit and an easy build.

It’s given me lots of pleasure… and I now have a massive bogie wagon.

(Not a wagon for massive bogies 🙂 )

  1. Looks like a lovely kit, and lovelingly made. I had some of the Parkside bogie coaches back in the day and they were a pleasure to assemble and used many of the same elements but the look of it.
