Boxomise: Bogie Balcony Coach

I like the tram loco I built recently, but I felt it needed a coach to match.

A nice tramway style coach with a balcony….

I started with the Ashover coach sides and ends and ‘bashed’ on from there.

Here’s the build… Click on a photo for a larger image.

These are the unmodified parts.
I cut away the door, and part of the end panel (modified parts on the left, unmodified on the right)
The door was placed behind the modified end panel.
All of the parts before assembly.
Here’s the assembled coach.

I left a hole in the floor…
… to allow me to access the inside of the coach when the roof is installed.
The parts for the balcony ends.
A coat of Citadel Corax White primer and a brown interior.
A rough coat of Burnt Umber.
A coat of Burnt Sienna. I gave the coach a second coat of this.
People and balcony ends installed.
Roof added, job done.

This is by far my biggest item of 009 rolling stock, I never owned anything with bogies in 009 before.

The lovely etched balcony ends, that make the coach look so good are from Light Railway Stores.

With hindsight I didn’t need to leave a hole in the floor. Indeed, as the coach is quite light, it would have been useful to have a floor so I could attach some additional weight.

The coach should probably have some lamp pots on the roof, but I can live without those for now.

Overall, I’m pleased with this build. The tram loco, bogie coach and short wheelbase brake van from T&S Models make a nice consist.
