Bogie Van Chassis

Continuing work on the box van, it’s time to create a chassis.

The van is 92mm (3.6 inch) long, so for O9 (On18) it’s going to have to be a bogie chassis.

My solution was simple. A rectangle of 1.5mm (60 thou) plasticard, with two holes, positioned to accept some Peco GR-104 009 coach bogies. Generally, I’m not a big fan of Peco 009 wheels (other wheel sets seem to run more smoothly) but I thought I’d give it a go because Peco bogies are so easy to fit (you drill a 4mm (0.16 inch) diameter hole to accept the clip at the top of the bogie).

The chassis is a ‘push fit’ into the body of the van. It sits on pieces of plasticard glued to the inside of the van body.

I like this simple approach and the ‘push fit’ floor will allow me to open up the model to add some weight or do maintenance on the bogies.
