Detailing the Ticket Office

I’ve painted the roof of the ticket office and added some details.

First some shutters, a simple counter and some fascia boards. The shutters and fascia boards are made from card. The counter from some angles of plastic and a small section of coffee stirrer. (What did railway modellers use before coffee stirrers became commonplace ๐Ÿ™‚ )

On the door I added some hinges and a hasp. Again these were made from card. The hinges were fiddly to make. I think I had to make five to get two that were a good match…

The ticket office will need to have a concrete or wood base and more details will need to be added – timetables, guide books and a smiling volunteer. I will add these later when I position the ticket office on the layout.

  1. You need a look-alike of Keith from the outback shack (Iโ€™m a celebrity get me outta here) to be the serving volunteer … it looks great, you must be happy, well done

  2. You’ve made such a lovely job of it I hate to say this. But the diagonal bracing on the ticket window doors should be angled the other way, from the bottom of the hinged side up. Sorry!

  3. Hello Steve,

A small model but wonderfully characteristic of its function and so well modelled. Really like what you have done and it is the little details such as the hinges and the wooden stays to hold back the shutters that bring it to life. If the rest of the layout is to this standard it will be a stunner!

    • Thanks Woody. It’s strange, but certain things grab my attention and I want to detail them. This was one of those. There’s a long way to go for the rest of the layout.. let’s see if I can keep going ๐Ÿ™‚
