This weekend was the Royston & District Model Railway Club exhibition. It’s a super exhibition with a huge variety of layouts, in many different styles and scales.
Three narrow gauge layouts caught my eye. The miniscule Shepherd Main by Patricia French (above) in 009 is only 20 inches square and even has a turntable! Pat told me it was built in the week between Christmas and New Year. I wish I could model that quickly!
Bassington Garden Centre by Brian Bassington is only a little larger at 30 x 20 inches. Based on Bressingham in Norfolk, it has excellent model greenhouses and a model railway club in the grounded railway coach.
From the small world of 009 to the very large world of G scale. I was very struck by the Grassland and Wetland Railway by Glyn Bennett. Super layout…
.. lovely strong, solid, detailed stock… even the carriage interiors are lit…
… and the layout is beautifully modelled.
At 14 feet (4.2m) long is quite compact for such a large scale. I had a great chat with Glyn, and it almost persuaded me to change scale. Almost.
Should we invite Grassland/Wetlands to our 2017 Open Day??

Great minds…I was going to ask you the same question! I have Glyn’s details and I will email them to you.
