Last weekend I pottered down to Pewsey to the 009 Society’s Wiltshire Group Members Day and MOMING ’15 (MODelling MINimum Gauge Railways). There were demonstrations, trade stands, many layouts and lardy cake… all crammed into the village hall.
Here are three layouts I haven’t seen before that caught my eye.
Busch Works by Simon Andrews was the smallest layout and possibly the most charming. It is a factory tramway in the unusual scale of 00n20 which is 00 scale (1/76th) on Z gauge track to represent a 20 inch gauge. It has two of the cutest Jung locomotives I’ve seen. They are kits from Rushby’s Resins.
.
I loved the charming rural railway, Wisteria Collop, created by Dave Simpson. A very simple layout, with a passing loop, one siding and the most fantastic flowering wisteria.
A long chat with John Thorne about Bottle Kiln Lane taught me a lot about making scenery and scratch building locomotives. John’s layout is so full of detail I found it difficult to photograph, but here’s one photo.
.
The demonstrations were great and it was very useful to talk to Simon DeSouza about scratch building wagons. Thanks for all the tips and tricks Simon.
The dangerous 009 Society Sales Stand was there and I was unable to resist. I even brought a book from Parkside Dundas (and I thought they made kits… oh yeah, I brought one of those too!). Here’s what I smuggled back home. It is an eclectic mix. There are lots of ideas in my head, I need to find time to bring them to life. Those long winter evenings perhaps.
It’s a 280 mile round trip from my home in deepest darkest Essex to Pewsey. Was it worth it? Definitely!
Sounds as thought you had a great time and have many projects on the table for future projects. Are you intending to make some form of railcar from the Peco Maudsley bus kit??

Hi Mark,
Yes, I’m planning a railcar and had read that the Maudsley bus was a good starting point. I’d added it to my ‘want’ list…and there it was on the 009 Society Sales stall…. just asking to be brought!

A great little 009 scale layout … not sure I’d make 280 mile round trip to see tho.
