Small Layout Exhibition Chelmsford

On Saturday I went to the Small Layout Exhibition organised by the Chelmsford and District Model Railway Club.

Here are some snaps of things that caught my eye. Click on a photo for a larger version.

Butley Quay in 009 by Peter Rednall.
This layout is beautifully detailed.
The buildings are based on real ones.
It really captures the atmosphere of Suffolk.
The Blitz in 00 by Basildon MRC.
A clever two level design with people sleeping in the Underground below.
The upper level is the street level scene. It’s beautifully modelled, but I found it rather depressing.
Here’s something you don’t see often. Willow Tree Cottage by Mick Kelly is a model of a miniature railway in 16mm scale using N gauge track.
Clever use of 009 locos, N gauge carriages and 16mm scale scenery.
It comes together very well to create a convincing miniature railway.
Stubbs Lane in 009 owned by Ken Paul.
A narrow gauge railway in a rural setting.
I love the herd of sheep going under the railway.
There’s an industrial scene too.
Highly detailed brewery.

I really like the detailing of this scene. ‘Freeston’ is an genuine business from Dave’s family.
Dave was showing his new mine micro layout too. The rock faces are crumpled paper.
He’s made several different mine tubs, each with real character.
It shows what you can do if you are creative and try different things.
Dave’s built three mine locos too. On the left the original Phil Sharples kit, in red a modification of it.
Here Dave’s taken the modifications one step further to produce a cabbed version. Nice !

It was a very enjoyable exhibition: well organised, nice layouts and several trade stands too. I will definitely return!

One of the reasons I went to the exhibition was because Dave told me he was exhibiting. We had a good chat and I got lots of advice on 16mm scale. Good to see you again Dave!

To complete the day: a bacon roll, a slice of coffee & walnut cake and a mug of tea. Perfect day out 🙂
