Trains at St Mary’s

Yesterday was the March and District Model Railway Club show.

I really enjoyed it. There were 3 traders, a club stand and 13 layouts. All for a fiver!

I was struck by the quality of the modelling and detailing on all the exhibits.

I went by train. March station has a great footbridge.
The traders and refreshments were in the hall.
Churches and cathedrals are becoming popular venues for exhibitions.
The layouts were in the church. For me this small venue worked better than the crowded exhibition in Bury St Edmunds cathedral.
Fenton St Clare in O-16.5 by the late Roland Woodrow.
The railway supplies several airbases in East Anglia.
I really like this warehouse.
Nice modelling.
The crumbling render and bricks caught my eye. More nice modelling!
The North Level Railway (O-16.5) has this charming street scene.
Plus lovely details throughout the layout.
I wonder if the box loco was built from one of my favourite modelling materials, coffee stirrers?
Front operation is great for operators but sometimes isn’t so good for exhibition visitors.
The West Shropshire Railway in 009. I like the Hungarian C50 loco.
Super street scene to one side of the layout.
The cafe area.
Great industrial feel to this part of the railway, especially the wagon turntable and the beautifully painted huts.
There’s even a canal.
(I need a faster shutter speed!)
The final detail, that brought a grin to my face, was this ‘planter’ train.
Wymill is an engaging 00 gauge layout, built using ‘Wye’ points.
Nice GWR railcar (think No 22).
Nicely modelled yard area.

Plus a pair of slippers from a nearby store.
I am all set for a winter of modelling 🙂
