I have another 009 Kerr Stuart, this time a 3D printed body.
I couldn’t resist converting it into a O9 loco ! Click on an image for a larger version.
The secondhand 009 3D printed Kerr Stuart. Brought for Β£6.The cab is too low for an O9 loco and has some 3D printing layering. So I removed it using a razor saw. Then I stripped off the old paint.I’d like a shorter loco, so I cut out a section of the body. The shortened body. The original was designed to fit a Kato chassis. I had to shorten that too. Then cut away parts of the underside so the chassis would fit.The shortened body on the chassis. To create an open cab I removed part of the cab side.I used the spare plastic to fill the gap on the other side of the cab. The open cab.Plastic spacers to level up the body. Lead strips add weight to the loco. The chassis is a snug fit and wont fall out.Brass, Greenwich, couplings were glued in place. The couplings from above. The exhaust was replaced, and extra details made of brass and plastic were added.I designed a 3D structure to cover up the Kato chassis. It’s loosely inspired by Ruston loco engines. The current state of play… There’s still lots to do !
There’s something satisfying about using a razor saw on a perfectly good model !
Although, when I look at the number of steps, I wonder if it might have been easier to scratch build something π
However, I will persist and finish this model.
Next steps: a seat, a driver and more detailing. Plus, lots more filling and smoothing !
