Today, I took advantage of the sunny weather, went outside and painted the baseboard of the little agricultural railway shunting layout I’m building. Click on a photo for a larger image.

I used some cheap acrylic paints that I had to hand. They covered the bare wood really well and a coat of paint took 10 to 15 minutes to dry. It was easy to make fast progress.
The ground, river and track bed were painted a dark, muddy brown.
The baseboard sides are black so that they don’t stand out.
The area towards the front of the baseboard will be a built-in control panel. I’ve painted it white. I think it works, but I can always repaint it if I change my mind.
I’ve left the back scene white for now. I’ve not decided if I will paint it sky blue or add a printed back scene. Either way, a white base colour is perfect.
It was really nice to do some ‘modelling’ outside in the sun π
