A Quick Locomotive Build

Sometimes it’s nice to do something that’s quick and easy.

I think this is the quickest locomotive build I’ve ever done.

To be honest… I cheated… I brought a ready assembled, ready painted secondhand loco body.

This secondhand Avalon Lines body was already made and nicely painted.
The Kato 11-109 chassis I had hoped to use was too big.
I remembered I had a Graham Farish 08 chassis in my ‘stash’.
The loco was designed for this chassis and it fits snugly.
The body wasn’t sitting correcly so I added some packing pieces to one end.
I cleaned the wheels, oiled the bearings and painted the coupling rods.
It was impossible to resist weathering the body (!)
Painting the driver – start with the lighter colours.
Progress to the darker colours and your work is done.
Now I just need to put the pieces together.
Here we go… the finished loco.
I particularly like that the driver is touching one of the levers.

This build was a lot of fun. It was a pleasure to receive such an attractive loco body through the post and sheer chance that, years ago, I’d brought the right chassis and stashed it in a drawer.

The figure is from S&D Models. As he is made of whitemetal I could bend his arm so that it was touching one of the control levers. I do like the ciggie in his mouth.

There we have it. A nice quick project and, thanks to an another modeller, an attractive loco.
