Inspired by the Wilby station preserved on the Mid-Suffolk Light Railway I wanted to make a really simple station building. Instead of the corrugated iron used on Wilby I went with lap boards to continue the timber theme of the Platform Store I built recently.
The starting point is the Coal Office kit from 422 Modelmaking. Here’s the build.

It was a pretty straightforward build. The only major modification was to replace the slate roof with a felt and batten roof from the 422 Modelmaking Permanent Way ‘Ganger’s’ Hut kit. As the two buildings are the same size the new roof was a good fit and slotted right in.
The fascia boards and guttering were easy additions, especially as the downpipes and guttering were ‘ready made’. They were salvaged from Thomas and Sons when I scrapped the layout.
This was a very enjoyable project, the kit goes together easily and has a lot of character.
